Let Me Listen Tour
In 2020, America began to experience a reckoning with our history and many White Americans examined, for the first time, the nation’s history of slavery and racism and how it still permeates American life. We finally began to listen.
In the midst of the 2020 Civil Rights Uprising, friends of Staley Choirs, Tony Silvestri and Dan Forrest wrote a piece for us, entitled “Let Me Listen.” This is a piece showing our dedication to walking alongside people whose experiences have been different from our students, hearing their stories–and believing them. We will be sitting together in the midst of darkness with the goal of helping to create change and cultivate a deeper understanding of race in the United States. Even in the midst of great darkness, we hope to find find great joy in relationship with the people we meet along the way.
Throughout this school year, community leaders will be educating Staley Choir students on Civil Rights History and the present day Black experience in America. This tour will provide insights into the long, dark shadow racism in the United States. Further, the tour will offer the healing power of music through choral concerts. In the long term, as we listen to these experiences, and sing the music, it will help us internalize the messages and take those lessons and experiences into our own lives and spread them into our communities.
Tour dates: March 16th, 2023 – March 24th, 2023.
Payments are due the first of each month and should be made online at Ryzer. https://register.ryzer.com/camp.cfm?id=225529
